31 July 08: Garden Festival 08
On Tuesday after class I went to Suntec City with my parents to see the Garden Festival 2008! I'd gone to one previously and really liked the exhibits, so this year I was especially excited to see if the standard had risen, and sure enough! IT was good and I really enjoyed myself. If you aren't going to see it, it's a waste! IT's not JUST a flower exhibition, although if you ARE looking for that, then the 4th floor exhibition hall would suit your tastes. Level 6 showcased different designs from different countries. Some were from Singapore of course, and there were others from Korea, Macau, India, Japan, Netherlands... IT's a really arty-farty affair so girlfriends I'm sure you'd enjoy it! =)
Anyways, I took some pictures so here they are:

They were having a really unique lucky draw where a new breed of plant would be named after the winner. Lol. It's cute!

Yup! They have the more 'practical' kind of exhibits too! Where they try and incorporate architectural features...
Ryokufu Tei - Green BreezeDesigned by: Kazuyuki Ishihara
Japan
I like it! It's got this really Japanese Zen kinda feel to it.

I REALLY LOVED this one!!! =) The atmosphere created by this exhibit was just...magical. My pictures honestly do no justice.

Can you tell? It's a city lost under water!!!
So beautiful!!!

The Inner Door In Our MindDesigned by: Jin Young Park
Korea
I liked this piece too!
It's pretty conceptual. Neat =)

And other exhibits!

It's giraffes! Hee~

I also took the opportunity to take pictures of weird looking plants and pretty flowers.

OMG... this one looks like an imitation Dragonfruit right?? hahah ... it's a plant though... ooooo

This was interesting coz they had tons of minature orchids in this big bird cage. =)

It's moss! Moss Terranium. That's what it says on the plaque.

27 July 08: Golden Sands Restaurant
Just a short post for today because I've got to go read some really dense stuff
ltr and I don't want to have to sleep late.
We went to eat at this coffee shop place at
Ang Mo
Kio Street 22. It's right opposite
Ang Mo
Kio Sec
Schl. We got there at around 7pm ordered at around 7.15 and waited for food for more than an hour. =S
It was reviewed quite favorably, according to Paul, but obviously the reviewer failed to mention the impossible wait time. It's almost as bad as the time Paul, gang and I went to La Nona's for dinner to celebrate Sarala's Bday...
Thank goodness my dad had the good sense to buy satay and rojak from the malay stall there. If not I think we'd have perished from the wait. I think the worst part was that after all that waiting, the lady in charge of the orders turned around to us and asked us " Ni men chi bao le ma?"
Yah.
That would have been funny if we weren't hungry.....
In any case we got served our food in the end. The food was okay, but I don't know if it was worth the long wait of an hour+ ... I didn't think much of their Fish Head Curry (which was supposed to be one of their specialities), but okay, I'll give them credit for their crabs. It was fried with this salted duck egg coating which wasn't too salty and gave the crabs a nice flavor. That was the only dish I think, that deserves some mention.
I wouldn't want to wait so bloody freakin long again tho.
Oh. IT didn't rain today! HAh! yes... we'll see what the weather will be like tmr...
NITE!!!

26 July 08: Mood = Calm
Today's Saturday! Which was a good opportunity to sleep in which I did coz i only woke up when Mag called me at 2-ish... I slept at like 11ish (which is pretty early considering that I usually sleep at 1) coz i was pretty shagged on Friday aft school. Which was why my post on the 25th was really short. hahha yeah.
Anyways! Friday was our very first Audio-Video production class of the semester and for 3 whole hrs, we were introduced to the equipment that we'd be using. Yes... I'd say we were having a highly productive class. =)
Well ok. It wasn't so bad coz getting to look at and handle the equipment was kinda neat. Though I gotta say... whoever came up with the names of the equipment must have a weird sense of humor... you'll see what I mean ltr. hah
Yup! So today was pretty relaxing for me. It was still raining in the morning but it was all good since I wasn't out walking abt. I got woken up by Mag ltr at arnd 2 tho coz she was in gardens after meeting up with her friend Ian. She felt like watching a movie so she woke me up saying "wake up and watch movie with me la! Don't need to bathe! Just change and come!"
hahah ... I was still kinda sleepy so my brain was fuzzy and all and I kept repeating whatever she was saying... "go out? Like now? Watch movie? Go out now?"
Then, as if she thought this statement would somehow motivate me more, she was like, "yah! You can come out with me and then you can tell me all about Bob!"
Bob?? Who the hell? Then my cloudy head cleared and I was like... "that's so not his name la!" hahha...
Good thing Mag has this LOUD piercing voice. So after listening to her screeching away for some time, I was wide awake and agreed to meet her. Lol. After putting down the phone, I realised that I had agreed to meet her, but hadn't told her that I was SO NOT going out without bathing first hahha. So I msged her back telling her to wait for me. =)
We ended up going to AMK Hub where she wanted to watch either Batman/Hellboy. Since I had watched both before, I told her that if I had to choose, I'd rather watch Batman again. So we bought tix for the 4.20 show. Watching Batman again wasn't too bad. I don't usually watch movies in theaters more than once, so the fact that I could stand watching it again shld go to show that this movie is pretty good stuff.
The 2nd time round made me even more impressed with Ledger's acting skills as the Joker. I mean hello, have you seen Heath's actual stunning good looking face and the usual characters that he portrays? Taking all that into account and comparing that with this Joker performance, I'd say he really outdid himself.
Sometimes, when an actor takes on a role, their real-life personality or reputation overwhelmes the actual character they're playing which can be a pain because then what you're watching on screen isn't the character, but the actor. I wasn't aware of heath's presence at all. He took on the Joker and BECAME him, making the character totally believable, dark, sinister and evil. The perfect criminal to oppose Batman. I bet the producers of the next batman show are gonna have a pain trying to find a replacement for Ledger.
Personally I thought the writers for this particular Batman script did a pretty good job in leaving some interesting thoughts behind. Like this! "You see madness is like gravity. All you need is a little push." =)
After the show, Mag had some stuff to do so she went off and left me all by lonesome self. hahha.. Thanks la Mag! When you're lonely you call me out, then when you don't need me any more you just junk me la! hahha okok I'm just kidding... I know you got stuff planned for dinner already haha. I forgive! *SMILE*
That's all for today so..... here's some pics from Friday's class!

We'll be using Sony's HDV camera for shooting and we'll have to be lugging them around to wherever our location is. *sigh* that'll be a pain.

Testing it!
And here's the funnily named piece of equipment! It's a "shotgun" microphone.... *.* hahhah ... I had stars in my eyes for a while. I think I fell in love with whoever came up with the name! =)
Here's Hazel my classmate! She's just fooling around..... btw... the umbrella in the background is actually fully functioning. Hahah.. altho we don't use it for rain. We use it to reflect light. It's also known as a reflector! Hence it's fashionable shinyness!
Kenneth... why are you in the picture??? hahha that's my lecturer. I was trying to take a pic of the Boom mic but I couldn't take it without getting him in the pic.....
Ah!!!! Kenneth again! LOL... I was trying to get a shot of...
THIS! hahha. yup! It's an OMNI light used for lighting up the set. It's pretty small though coz it's meant to be transportable.

And here's what we little girls will be carrying with us. It's the travel case set in which we'll keep the accessories to the lights e.g. the reflectors, the light stands, the wire cables etc.... I think the case is about 3-5kg. Jo was lying when she said it was 2kg. That is definitely not 2kg.

And finally... to our delight! We found this piece of bubble wrap with bubbles triple the size of a $1 coin... hahha freakin BIG la! We girls were so happy popping them. hahha It was almost orgasmic. hah.
My mood today's pretty calm so here's something else to listen today (since it rained). His guitar playing is pretty good towards the middle!

25 July 08: it can't rain everyday
It's been raining every almost every day now. Today was no exception. I love rainy days but really hate it when I have to be out and about walking on the wet streets and getting soaked to the bone... *sigh*
I wonder how many days till the weather decides to be sunny everyday. Until then, I'll be playing my own little game putting something on here that's got the word "rain" in it or that's related to rain. =)
Kinda feelin a little emo today, so my first link shall be this:

25 July 08: My Trip to the Maldives
And yes! I've finally decided to add some pics to this revived blog of mine =) and the very first ones to grace this miraculous blog is.... my pics from my trip to the Maldives!!! WHOOTT! Hahaha.. I actually went to the Maldives with my parents and brother Paul in June. The first few days were pretty cloudy so I couldn't get many photos with gd lighting. But really, it's just AMAZING there!
The beach is WHITE and the sea is BLUE! REALLY IT IS!! hahaha. I mean honestly, how often do we get to see such a scene in Singapore? Clean as we are
or are supposed to be, our beautiful sentosa beach would never be able to compete with the Maldivian ones. I mean really. Not even close!
The food was good, the atmosphere was great and the hermit crabs there were just too amusing! hahaha... yes there were hermit crabs like... everywhere. And that's because the resort we went to is literally on the beach. There were no concrete roads, no tar pavements... only sand, sea and houses. =) That's the life isn't it? There was no noise from traffic... only the sound of the waves hitting the shore.... ahhhhhh to have that kinda lifestyle FOREVER! hahhaha
The only thing that's unfortunate is that everything's in US currency... sigh I dread thinking how much I owe my mom.... hahaha yah. I kind of have to pay her back for the trip after I start working. I promised. heee ~
So anyway, enough talking! here's the pics:

We arrived at Male Airport! The thing abt the Maldives is that it consists of TONS of mini islands. So what happens is that the airport is on one of these islands and usually tourists have to take another internal plane from the main airport to the island they're staying on, or take a ferry/ship/boat.

The resort we were staying at is called Kandooma. They met us at the airport and brought us to their exclusive island by boat. I say exclusive because there is absolutely NOTHING else on this island except this resort, it's facilities e.g. diving centre, spa, hermit crab centre and its eateries.

As you should notice by now, all their buildings look like that! Totally cool right? It's got this Balinese-contemporary-minimalist feel to it. Mainly coz of all the white and wood. I want my future home to look like that. =) My mom and bro are in the pic above. We're walking towards Kandooma Cafe for lunch! Look at the ground!!! hahahha... yes, like I said earlier... there's only sand....

My dearest brother PAul! What a nice smile you have! Such even teeth!!!!!!! ARGH
Me! hahah just chillin out at the cafe which is by the pool, which funnily enough is by the sea. LOL.
Yes... the man-made pool right next to the world-made sea.
Our Maldivian home! hee~ It's a beauty really. Ours was a beach suite which meant we were facing the sea! hahha. Yes and a few step out of those doors landed us right on the shoreline!
My daddy without his specs!
My shared room with Paul! The beds were AWESOME! I mean doesn't it look comfy?
Brother Paul just snoring away....
Peekaboo Mom!
And here's what I was talking about! The WHITEST of WHITES and the BLUEST of BLUES! And I didn't even photoshop it!
So my dad, my brother and myself decided to try our hand at fishing! Hahah... Paul made the first catch with this SUPER HUGERNORMOUS fish! woweee. Paul looks like a small kid =)
Hermit crabs! hahha yes... they just walk everywhere. I found these guys right outside our house door! hee~ Although they're really shy so it was hard to get a good shot since they just recede into their shells if you get too close.
I thought it was amusing how every single day without fail, this particular stork would land on the shoreline right outside our house. I tried tailing this creature to get an up-close shot....
But when I got too close for comfort it flew off! hahah =) I bet that stork was waiting for its lover or something.

And finally to end, a beautiful sunset. Ahhhhh..... don't you just love holidays? =)
Let's go there soon!
